well... it's been quite a while since this happened... IIRC, after
trying to do a couple of things to revive my passwd, group and shadow
files, I decided it would take a lot less time to reinstall the
machine... (I had a 'dpkg --get-selections' saved so it wasn't too much
of a problem, since home directories are in a server).

This is my work machine and after that I upgraded to jaunty.

I'm working outside of the office for a couple of days, I can try next
week to back up these files and see if I can reproduce what I did.

It was probably the first time I used users-admin in that machine since
I'm quite an old guy and I usually handle passwd and group files by
direct editing or using adduser/addgroup at most.
