I opened a new bug report #368679 about system freezes at startup
related to module rtl8180. Indeed the initial description of the current
bug is about freeze while connecting, not while loading the module. It
is finally an old Gutsy bug so I'm setting it as incomplete until
someone suffers from the same issue or close it.
So Dan Mazzei, CDMGT, jhansonxi, you should move to bug #368679.
