This is not an error. There is no browser without a tab in it at this point. That may be a feature in the future, but when you close the last tab, it's like closing the window. Also, as I said, this worked the same way in Firefox 3.0. Addons are free to modify functionality. My guess is that it just does a check every time you use CTRL + W to see if you only have one tab open. I confirmed with the Mozilla people that this is the expected behavior. You have the extension that changes it to your liking. That's what the extensions are for, to give people options for features that Mozilla can't make for everyone. Please feel free to report any other issues you may find.
