comment 9 is my apport-collect for nautilus, and I think I'm experiencing the same bug with a little twist. In my case opening a video file larger than 1GB (it was a few divx files in this case) with any video application (tested with totem, vlc, mplayer) through nautilus will cause nautilus to consume exactly 1GB of memory and then to get stuck with 100% cpu. but nautlius doesn't crash, it just don't response and consumes all the cpu. As A.Walton suggested in comment 8, I've tried to turn off preview for files, and in this case turning off preview for "Other previewable files" will remedy the problem, i.e. large video files can be opened from nautilus and all works well and nautilus doesn't consume memory or cpu. So his assumption about mime sniffing might be correct.
