OK
For a quick check, I ran Firefox in "safe" mode which, as I understand
it disables all extensions. The navigation links were still missing.
I went to profile manager and added a new profile. Upon startup, the
links were available, BUT I think that is because no cookies were stored
for that profile. I added "Xmarks" to bring in my bookmarks and
passwords from the server, then the links disappeared. I disabled
"Xmarks", but the links did not come back.
I have just rebooted to Windows XP on which I have Firefox 3.5.2.
I have the same bug here. That begins to look like the problem may NOT
be Firefox at all
I tried the same board in Internet Explorer & the problem exists there
as well, so I was entirely wrong in blaming Firefox.
Since the bug exists in Firefox 3.0, Firefox 3.5, & IE8.0, and both
Ubuntu & XP, I could be wrong, but I would guess it is related to
Javascript.
