Yeah, isn't 8.04 an LTS edition? My 8.04 Desktop machine suffers from this problem. I think I got it fixed by adding the command to assemble the arrays degraded to the initramfs 'local' script, but finding what needed to be done was a real PITA and I'm sure others will continue to hit this issue.
