Thanks for taking the time to report this and help make Ubuntu better.  It 
sounds to me like perhaps there wasn't sufficient space allocated for your root 
partition (/) when you did the install.  If you could attach some additional 
information, it might help us be able to better determine what the problem is:
1. Do you know what the options were that you selected when you were 
installing, with regards to disk partitioning?
2. please attach /var/log/installer/partman
2. please run the command 'df -h' and attach the output
