I have thinkpad R61, I disabled the touchpad because it is annoying and not as efficient as the trackpad. I see that you are not convinced by the need to change the behaviour of switching windows to make it easier. I suggest that you add an option so people who feel do not comfort with current situation can choose another solution like the ones I mentioned or mentioned by Chris in comment 7.
