Public bug reported:

serf-0.3.0-0.2 in Karmic build-depends on unversioned libapr1-dev, but
it requires a recent version of libapr1-dev to build successfully. I'm
not sure which version is the oldest supported version, but Jaunty's
libapr1-dev (1.2.12-5ubuntu0.1) is too old. When backporting serf-0.3.0
to Jaunty, the build fails with the following output:

make[1]: Entering directory `/home/a7x/ubuntu/serf-0.3.0'

Backporting Karmic's libapr1-dev to Jaunty results in a successful
serf-0.3.0 backport. I'm not sure if serf also requires a newer
libaprutil1-dev; the backport completed successfully using Jaunty's
version of libaprutil1-dev (1.2.12+dfsg-8ubuntu0.3).
