Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeon

I am experiencing problems with my

02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R350 [Radeon
9800 Pro]
02:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R350 [Radeon 9800 Pro]
(Secondary)

on Ubuntu Jaunty kernel 2.6.28-14-generic.

[problem 1] Compiz is working fine, but when I start a 3D application
like ppracer and glxgears, the screen blinks with stripes (see
attachment). The framerate glxgears reports is also lower with EXA than
with XAA (2200 against 3400 fps). The problem persists when desktop
effects are turned off. With XAA everything works properly.

[problem 2] some websites featuring flash and animated gifs make Xorg's
processor usage skyrocketing. Example website below in the comments. Sometimes
the video is not watchable and the whole system slows down. The following
options help a bit.
        Option "AccelDFS" "true"
        Option "MigrationHeuristics" "greedy"
The problem occurs with both Compiz on and off. The problem is also existant
with XAA but less pronounced (60% xorg cpu usage against ~80% [with firefox
together 100%] for EXA).

I don't know if these problems are known and being worked on, because I
could not find a recent bug report that match my one.
