I can confirm this bug in a Sony Vaio SZ750N. Specifically, I'm getting the exact same problem as nboddie and Gerry reported -- /proc/acpi/button/lid/LID0/state properly changes state upon lid open/close but no event is triggered (checked by using acpi_listen and lshal -m).
