I tried booting 2 times, once with maxcpus=1 option, so with isolcpus=1.
In both cases, the kernel used only 1 core, and I had no problem playing an mp3 
with VLC, although i launched in background 4 dd task and system load was more 
than 6.

I have only ext3 filesystems, anyway there was no noticeable disk
activity during my test. In my opinion, this issue is related to kernel
scheduler on SMP.

My workaround, for now, is boot with isolcpus=1 and manually set
affinity for heavy tasks.
