I tried booting 2 times, once with maxcpus=1 option, so with isolcpus=1. In both cases, the kernel used only 1 core, and I had no problem playing an mp3 with VLC, although i launched in background 4 dd task and system load was more than 6.
I have only ext3 filesystems, anyway there was no noticeable disk activity during my test. In my opinion, this issue is related to kernel scheduler on SMP. My workaround, for now, is boot with isolcpus=1 and manually set affinity for heavy tasks. -- [jaunty] cpu scheduling is not optimized for multitask https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363663 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
