Short request: could somebody, who is justified to do that, change the 
importance of this bug to at least medium or high. 
I think the bug is important enough to get some attention: people could easily 
lose their data this way! and accidentally clearing partition tables of disks 
is to my opinion a serious bug in a operating system... 
(you can get it your data back by writing your partition table back to the card 
using dd, as described in the workaround above, but then you need at least to 
have a copy of the partition table, and this is not really something that an 
inexperienced user can do).

/home on your sd card sounds maybe stranger than it actually is. Many
netbooks are equipped with flash disks that have incredibly long write
access times (up to a second!). Having your firefox cache on such a
disks makes browsing a hell, making SD cards interesting alternatives
for your /home, as long as it does not corrupt the partition table
though....
