Public bug reported:

I'm trying to compress a few files. I select them, right click and press
Compress. I choose a filename and the compression type, followed by ok. Only
the files without spaces in them (whitespace) are added to the archive.
I get the following error:
tar: Raport%20Activitate-29-07-2009.xls: Cannot stat: No such file or directory
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors

I am pretty sure that the file "Raport Activitate-29-07-2009.xls"
exists, as I was the one creating it. Works fine if I rename the file to
"Raport-Activitate-29-07-2009.xls".

file-roller:
  Installed: 2.27.3-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.27.3-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.27.3-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
Linux unknown-device 2.6.31-4-generic #23-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jul 27 18:39:59 UTC
2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Karmic Alpha 3

This should not happen; people usually do use whitespace in file names.
