I've been bitten by this one today. Yesterday, I've installed Windows 7 RC in one spare hard drive and now aptitude install linux-image-generic was giving errors.
After moving /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/20microsoft out of the way, "dpkg --configure -a" ran correctly. Yes. I'm using grub2 on Jaunty. I've noticed that there's no /etc/grub.d/XX_microsoft to generate entries for MS OSes. Maybe that's why I got: Found Windows Vista (loader) on /dev/sdc1 User postinst hook script [/usr/sbin/update-grub] exited with value 1 ...before moving /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/20microsoft.
