Kernel versions 2.6.31-1 and 2.6.31-2 fail to boot altogether on my machine (see bug 395058), so 2.6.30-10 is the most recent one I can use. (All older kernel versions since I use Ubuntu (around the time of Dapper) have also worked as far as I can remember.)
