It seems that Gstreamer *does* use its PulseAudio backend by default, if it exists. This means that you should not see this bug on a fresh installation, but only if you have customized your Gstreamer backend in gstreamer-properties before. To set this right, open your run dialog, and type "gstreamer-properties". Set the 'Default Output' plugin to 'Autodetect' or 'PulseAudio Sound Server'. I'm hence marking this invalid.
