Ok I've writed an fdi following your instructions and It works on my vaio FE21M. I think however a shift is needed between the hal values(0->20) and the smartimmers values (1->21). value=$((value-1)) in the get method smartdimmer -s "$((value+1))" in the set method the only strange think is that every time the brightness change, it goes to zero then grows up to the desired level by step of one.
