Ok, have updated ALSA drivers to 1.0.20 and HDA Intel ALC268 Analogue (ALSA) now works for music, web with workaround in alsa-base.conf (options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba) BUT still no system sounds in Ubuntu and STILL get the white noise between login and Ubuntu desktop appearing. Still could use some help as I have now run out of bug-search options! Thanks in anticipation...
