D-Bus is not intended to work over SSH. This actually requires a LOT more thought than you realise. For example, let's say you are running banshee on the remote box.
Should that banshee see the attached iPods on the remote box, or on the local box? If on the remote box, you actually don't _want_ D-Bus forwarded over ssh - you want to know about the system bus at the remote end, and maybe a session bus just for your ssh session? If on the local box, you now have to deal with the fact the devices are on the local system - so you need something like nbd to forward them across ssh as well.
