Ok, the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package wasn't installed. Once
installed and rebooted, the touchpad works again. I have to use three
fingers plus the button to right-click, but thats another bug that is
yet to be resolved since late jaunty.

I used the alternate CD, so the next step is working out why the
synaptics driver wasn't installed. I also found the same with the bcmwl-
modaliases package not being installed, but again thats another bug.
I'll try with another daily on Monday to see if all of this behavior has
changed. If not, I'll pursue further.
