I'm downloading a CD image in Jaunty and out of interest checked System Monitor > Network History and it shows double the bandwidth that wget shows.
My connection is limited to 16kB and most of the time wget (also apt) shows 14.9 k to 15.8 k. System monitor shows between 28 k to 32 k, exactly twice the bandwidth.
