Public bug reported: Ubuntu Karmic amd64, updated every couple of days.
Three months ago the system was running Jaunty (pre-release). A third- party .deb was added (IBM tsm backup software) which created /etc/inittab with the following content tsm::respawn:/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsmsched.rc This did not cause any problems. The system also worked just fine after the upgrade to Karmic alpha-1 and subsequent updates until end of june. The box did boot fine on June 25th, but does not do so after the next update at June 29th. The splash screen would hangs about 80%. After a few seconds the system goes into text-mode, the last message is Setting up ICE socket directory /tmp/.ICE-unix... which is the last message of the last job (S70x11-common) in /etc/rcS.d. I checked by adding debugging statement that the first script in rc2.d/rc3.d (S01policykit) is NOT executed. I can fix this situation by either adding "3" to the kernel commandline or by moving /etc/inittab away. I'm totally at loss which package might be faulty. Upstart has not been updated in this time window. What package could cause this? ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [karmic] boot hangs when /etc/inittab exists https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/396266 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
