I have same problems with ASUS MSN-MX SE PLUS motherboard. Same hardware on 2 pc's, on one is Ubuntu 7.10 Hardy, on another Ubuntu 8.04 Several times problems with a Nvidia GeForce 6150 SE , blank screen, manual changing of resolution did help. Apparently, there is a release of new Nvidia VGA driver, maybe life will get better.
Now, Nvidia nforce Network card controller isn't working on the both machines (Ubuntu 7.10 and Ubuntu 8.04). Tip with nosplash, or removing quite option during the boot didn't help. Seems that this hardware is of trash quality.
