Public bug reported: Ubuntu x64 Kernel (uname -a): Linux ath64 2.6.28-13-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 2 07:55:09 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux Two XFS volumes (on physically different SATA hard disks).
Problem description: Kernel has encountered bug (aka OOPS?) while copying a dozen of files from one XFS volume to another XFS disk. File copying was performed by mc filemanager. Somewhere in the middle of large copying of many thousands of files mc has been killed. Investigation has shown that kernel encountered problem and that's why mc has been killed. System became quite unstable (there were certain troubles with applications, Firefox and some other apps have stopped responding). However I managed to save dmesg log before reboot. Kernel bug information follows (looks like OOPS occured twice in same place). ---skipped--- [ 0.000000] Linux version 2.6.28-13-generic (bui...@yellow) (gcc version 4.3.3 (Ubuntu 4.3.3-5ubuntu4) ) #44-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 2 07:55:09 UTC 2009 (Ubuntu 2.6.28-13.44-generic) ---skipped--- [132967.105092] XFS mounting filesystem sdd1 [132967.259470] Ending clean XFS mount for filesystem: sdd1 [148655.427568] ------------[ cut here ]------------ [148655.427577] kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.28/fs/buffer.c:3248!
