I have this problem, too. Hardware: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)
lsmod does *not* show snd_intel8x0, but does show snd_hda_intel. alsamixer -c 0 does not work unless run as root. aplay -l and play -L also only work as root, and they give reasonable results. pavucontrol only shows the null device, and /var/log/user.log shows the following: pulseaudio[3182]: module-alsa-card.c: Card '0' doesn't exist: No such file or directory pulseaudio[3182]: module.c: Failed to load module "module-alsa-card" (argument: "device_id=0 name=pci_8086_284b_sound_card_0 card_name=alsa_card.pci_8086_284b_sound_card_0 tsched=0"): initialization failed. Playing a sound with ffplay as root works. I suspect this is a permissions problem. -- sound broken in 2.6.30-10-generic for Intel 82801CA-ICH3 with AD1886A https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/393629 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
