Yesterday I did a kernel update via the Ubuntu apt repository from
kernel 2.6.28-11 to 2.6.28-13 on two different machines and the same
problem occurred.

The update process created invalid UUIDs for my root partitions on both
machines, rendering both systems unbootable.

Having had to spend three hours on a Sunday evening (an hour's drive to
the data center to get at a console) wasn't exactly what I had planned
for my Sunday evening :-/

Please let me know if you need any additional information from me in
order to find the root cause, since the impact of this bug is extremely
severe and needs to be addressed.
