Still not solved in 8.04 as it seems. I tried to access the CUPS web front end via Ubuntu 9.04 (Firefox 3.0.11) and OS X 10.5.7 (Safari 4.01 and Firefox 3.0.11), but failed by entering the credentials, too. The user is in the lpadmin group, remote administration is allowed. Push ... ;-)
