I've had the same problem, not exactly sure what triggers it.

I installed the Streamripper package version 1.64.6-1 from Karmic
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/streamripper) and had it going for
days now. You can install the package right away, dependencies are met
on Jaunty by default.

So I'd say push 1.64.6-1 to Jaunty and problem solved.
