I see from the comment log at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=517015 that some bugs causing corruption when
resizing ext4 were fixed in e2fsprogs 1.41.4-2:
e2fsprogs (1.41.4-2) unstable; urgency=low
* Fix a number of filesystem corruption bugs in resize2fs when growing
or shrinking ext4 filesystems off-line (i.e., when the ext4
filesystem is not mounted).
So I think this bug should be fixed in Karmic, which has e2fsprogs
1.41.5-1ubuntu3, but possibly not in Jaunty, which is using
1.41.4-1something.
