I am using Ubuntu 9.04. I encounter the same error when trying to eject my iPod Classic 1st gen.
1. I right clicked on the iPod and clicked eject 2. It to eject without any error messages 3. It did eject but gave me an error message "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.UnknownError: An unknown error occured"....however...after leaving the error message open for some time I received another message which could explain the problem. The new message was "DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken." There is no real problem as the iPod seems to eject just fine however the error message is slightly annoying and I hope this can be fixed.
