Thank you so much for the reply. I fixed it for my self and had not check my mail box since.
I accidentally used "sudo pidgin" and found that it did remember my account settings, then I made a copy of the setting file and remove ./purple and made a new one. It worked! Thanks again and I am having fun with Ubuntu.
