I am using the Nvidia Geforce 8200m on a laptop running Ubuntu 9.04 and
an old Sony Vaio desktop with a SIS graphics card (also running Ubuntu
9.04). I don't see how I could attach a screenshot of the problem
because the dialog can browse to a folder but it wouldn't appear to do
something. For example, if I tried to open an image in GIMP and it
defaulted to the Pictures directory, but my image was on the Desktop, I
would click on the Desktop link, but the Dialog would still show
Pictures. I can still open the image on the Desktop if I knew exactly
what row the file was at.

file dialogs don't appear to do anything (can open a folder and choose a file
(if you know exactly where it is), but it doesn't show up)
