So on the topic of making this bug more interesting, I have been talking
with directhex (Jo Shields) who claims he hasn't seen any segfaults in
the buildd logs for jaunty. This lead me to repeat the Hello World test
on the porting box and low and behold:

It seems the issue is dependent on what hardware (and possibly what kernel) is 
being using on the ARM board.
