I can't reproduce the behaviour on the testuser at all. I also find that I can only get the bad behaviour if I have the menu bar of the terminal turned off. I also notice that the font on the testuser's terminal is different from the one I'm getting, though we're both using the "Use system default fixed font" option. I've attached screenshots of the testuser's and my original terminal windows side by side. Why should the fonts be different? (The michaeln account was created under Ubuntu 8.10.)
