I've tried the new kernel 2.6.30 after solving a problem with the nvidia
180.44 driver. I installed a new version 180.60 instead.

It boots without acpi=off but it gives me this message:
[Firmware Bug]: powernow-k8: No compatible ACPI-PCSS objects found
[Firmware Bug]: powernow-k8: Try again with latest BIOS.
