I don't know what it could be. Perhaps the ubuntu kernel has some buggy patches or untested features enabled?
I'm content on staying with Debian as well except for the "Stable vs. Unstable Conundrum". Stable is old and even Testing is buggy. My gksu and nm-applet are broken in Testing. I switched to wicd and still can't resolve the gksu issue. How are things on your side?
