I've asked on the upstream tracker if a patch could be provided, as there are some screenshots of functional versions and a developer claiming to have a patch for potential merging. If I can get one I'll throw it in my PPA and it can be evaluated. The patch probably won't be trivial but maybe it would be useful to evaluate as a usability issue anyway, just not a paper cut.
