I can't reproduce this on Jaunty with Thunderbird 2.0.0.21; I can send a
mail to t�...@%mydomain% which arrives there (thanks to catchall) - Does
this bug still affect you? (btw. does gmx allow non ASCII characters?)

But there are still many problems with the idn support in thunderbird -
I'm not sure if the will be fixed in tb3 (see e.g.
