Hi, It's over a couple a weeks I have this bug (or the more ancient [#245589]) too. Since I have many mail accounts (pop and imap) in evolution, with all different passwords which I don't all remember, it's getting really a pain to re-enter them several times a day ...
I got the impression that any network problem (client or server side) causes evolution to pop up for password on any account it was about to check. If you cancel the dialog, the password is like invalidated until you actually re-enter it.
