Probably because this is the multiverse (or was it universe) tree. A pity, yes. This problem forces me to abandon Ubuntu and use Debian. And once I've configured it - I'm not keen to switch my production environment back again. The more demanding user is being disappointed this way. What's better? Many fysical Ubuntu server or many of them being virtual? I know the answer :-) I think this should be given more priority.
