I should have explained; Both PCs already had eeebuntu 9.04 (32 bit) or mythbuntu 9.04 (AMD 64) installed and running OK. The updates where, of course, sudo apt-get upgrade, which pulled some hal related stuff down and installed it, I'm not sure of the specifics until I find a live disk and try and get in that way so I can salvage some files at least.
