Hi Patrick,
This is interesting, because /proc/acpi/video/*/DOS is the last
remaining action handled by hotkey-setup in Ubuntu 9.04, and we were
already planning to drop this for karmic but hadn't yet due to
uncertainty over what this change was originally meant to achieve. If
you've removed hotkey-setup and things are working for you, then I would
say you've implemented precisely the correct fix on your system. :)
