I've seen this as well - confused the hell out of me when it first happened and I'm not a novice. I have an application form that looks like page of text but is actually a page sized image, accidentally swiping the mouse pad caused evince to grey out (compiz) for a good minute before opening another evince (which also greyed out) that showed the same image but with a different window title (image-0).
