I'm having this issue with my ecs amd690gm-m2, realtek alc883. Everything worked perfectly with ubuntu 8.1, but now I have no 5:1 sound after upgrading to 9.04. As described above, when I choose 5:1 sound in VLC, i get this error: Audio output failed: The audio device "surround51" is already in use. Audio output failed: VLC could not open the ALSA device "surround51" (Device or resource busy).
