I've upgraded to KDE 4.2.3 to fix some Kontact problems, but it had no
affect on this issue.

I noticed that when I plug in a flash drive, KDE recognizes both the
flash drive and the external USB drive. I don't know if this is a
result of KDE 4.2.3 or not.

I'd like to use this external USB drive for backups. My intent was to
setup Keep to backup the directories where most of my data resides and
have it sync the data to folders on this external drive periodically.

However, if the drive isn't mounted at boot time, this isn't going to
work without manual intervention (create a USB event).

I'm uncertain if this is a KDE issue or a Kernel USB subsystem issue, or
somewhere in between. Any pointers on where to look/start would be
appreciated.

My issues don't seem to correspond to the fatal issues Henny
experienced, and I'm again uncertain if these are related. Should I
open a new bug report?
