I tested this on my netbook and successfully switch from UNR mode to classic mode. However, when I tried to switch back, I got the "error occurred while loading or saving configurating information..." described in comment #8 above. It did appear to work though, despite the error.
This was from a fresh install, that I updated, then installed all the proposed updates on.
