This issue look likes its being caused by nvidia 9xxx drivers. That were never released for dapper try removing the nvidia drivers than finish the upgrade to Edgy. Use gksu "update-manager -c" to upgrade to Edgy please. It looks like it installed ubuntu-desktop but the nvidia-dev and nvidia-glx look like wrong versions.
