I have the same hardware and, as I reported here recently, this bug is solved with UXA: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/UxaTesting UXA works perfectly here. Just add that line to you X config, reboot and enjoy your Ubuntu install. UXA fixes all the bugs of the previous driver: Display corruptions and X freezes. Plus, it doesn't introduce _any_ bugs.
