Public bug reported:

karmic shutdown fails on IBM Thinkpad T40 if booted with "quiet splash".

Linux version 2.6.30-5-generic (bui...@rothera) (gcc version 4.4.1
(Ubuntu 4.4.0-3ubuntu3) ) #6-Ubuntu SMP Mon May 11 19:56:30 UTC 2009

Updates as of today as well.

Normal boot with "quiet splash" has several problems:

1. USB logitech mouse not recognized. The trackpoint works.
2. USB IBM keyboard not recognized. The builtin keyboard works.
3. Screen comes up half bright.
4. Shutdown gets message "Power manager not responding". I select "continue".
5. Shutdown then hangs with black screen and blinking cursor
6. Ctrl-Alt-F1 shows screen with "T40 login:" however keyboard produces no
response.
7. Power off pushbutton required.
8. Syslog is attached, protection faults, segment faults, various other
ominous messages.

Boot with "quiet splash" removed works normally. USB devices detected & work,
shutdown works, ...
Boot in recovery mode works normally as well.
Syslog is attached showing USB Logitech mouse, ... as expected.

T40 runs Intrepid, Jaunty just fine.

I have karmic running on Thinkpad R31, ThinkCentre A30 tower, Compaq
Presario tower. None have this problem.

Reproducable at will. Let me know of anything else you may want

Thanks, Jerry
